TRAVEL TIPS

Cruise Travel to Lima

The few cruise ships that visit Lima dock at the commercial port of El Callao, a city west of Lima where Peru’s main international and domestic airport is also located. Most of El Callao is down at the heels and can be dangerous. The site of most interest to visitors is the colonial fortress, Fortaleza Real Felipe, which is less than a mile from the port. Most passengers opt for a tour of Lima, which provides an overview of the city’s top sights and neighborhoods. An alternative is to hire a taxi, which costs about $15 per hour. Lima is too confusing to attempt renting a car and navigating on your own. El Callao should not be explored on foot.
